How it works

  1. Cast any creature by paying its mana cost.
  2. When the creature enters as a Plains due to Ashaya and Emeria Shepherd, Emeria Shepherd triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Trenching Steed by sacrificing the creature cast in step 1.
  4. Resolve the Emeria Shepherd trigger, returning another creature from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  5. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop turns your entire creature base into a self-sustaining recycling engine by layering land types and replacement rules. With Celestial Dawn in play, your lands become Plains, while Ashaya, Soul of the Wild ensures every nontoken creature you control is also a Forest land in addition to its other types. When you cast a creature, its new land status instantly satisfies Emeria Shepherd's landfall ability, letting you target a card in your graveyard. Before that trigger resolves, you can use Trenching Steed to sacrifice that newly entered creature to its own activation cost, cleanly sending it back to the graveyard while fueling the loop. Because the land entering was treated as a Plains due to Celestial Dawn, the Shepherd's trigger puts your sacrificed creature directly back onto the battlefield instead of your hand, generating infinite death, sacrifice, and landfall triggers to recur every creature card in your graveyard.
