How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Cayth.
2. When Cayth dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Cayth enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop turns a clever interplay of counters and sacrifice into a self-sustaining engine, fueled by the unique gifts of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight's backside granting persist to your nontoken creatures. When you sacrifice Cayth, Famed Mechanist to Umbral Collar Zealot's activation, persist returns Cayth to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. Crucially, Cayth's own rules text—bolstered by its static ability granting fabricate 1 to other nontoken creatures—interacts with the +1/+1 counter from its fabricate trigger upon re-entering, allowing the two counters to annihilate each other as state-based actions. This leaves Cayth completely clean of counters and ready to be sacrificed all over again, generating infinite death triggers, enter-the-battlefield triggers, and free surveils.
