How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Marionette Apprentice.
2. When Marionette Apprentice dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Marionette Apprentice enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop relies on Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn / Isilu, Carrier of Twilight in its twilight face to grant persist to Marionette Apprentice, ensuring that sacrificing the Apprentice to Shilgengar, Sire of Famine sends it to the graveyard only to immediately return with a -1/-1 counter. As Marionette Apprentice re-enters, its fabricate ability triggers to place a +1/+1 counter on it, which immediately neutralizes the existing -1/-1 counter through state-based actions. This leaves the Apprentice fresh and ready to be sacrificed to Shilgengar all over again, generating a Blood token each time. Meanwhile, Marionette Apprentice's drain ability triggers on every trip to the graveyard, steadily draining your opponents' life totals out of existence.
