How it works
Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing the persist creature.
When the persist creature dies, its persist ability and Gorma trigger.
Resolve the Gorma trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
Resolve the persist trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Gorma.
Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
Repeat
This loop turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into an inexhaustible engine by leveraging a persist creature to repeatedly feed its sacrifice ability, generating endless Blood tokens and death triggers in the process. As your creatures endlessly perish and return, Gorma, the Gullet steps in with its passive lifelink and scaling static ability—not only growing larger with every death, but crucially granting your returning persist creatures an extra +1/+1 counter on entry that cancels out their dreaded -1/-1 counters. This synergy creates a closed circuit of sacrifices and resurrections, flooding your board with infinite enters-the-battlefield triggers, artifacts, and massive stats.
