How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing the creature with persist.
2. The persist ability triggers, returning that creature to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it, as well as a +1/+1 counter due to Gev.
3. The +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on that creature are removed as a state-based action.
4. Resolve the ability from step 1.
5. Repeat.

This ingenious little loop relies on Gev, Scaled Scorch's passive ability to ensure that whenever a persist creature returns to the battlefield, it arrives bearing both a -1/+1 counter and an extra +1/+1 counter. State-based actions immediately neutralize these opposing counters, wiping the creature's slate clean so it can be sacrificed once more. Meanwhile, Umbral Collar Zealot provides the necessary outlet to constantly feed that sacrifice loop, turning your endless cycles of death and rebirth into a bottomless well of surveil triggers.
