How it works

1. Cast Phantasmal Image by paying its mana cost. Choose to have it enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
2. Put Phantasmal Image into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
3. Phantasmal Image's first ability and second ability trigger, along with Rakdos Joins Up's second ability.
4. Resolve Phantasmal Image's second trigger and Rakdos Joins Up's trigger, dealing damage to target opponent.
5. Resolve Phantasmal Image's first trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This loop relies on the classic interaction between the legend rule and clone effects to continuously recycle triggers. When you use Phantasmal Image to enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up, the legend rule immediately puts the clone into your graveyard, triggering both its own reanimation ability and the damage-dealing trigger of the original Rakdos Joins Up. Because Phantasmal Image's enters-the-battlefield trigger returns itself to the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up again—further enhanced by two extra +1/+1 counters—you can repeat this cycle infinitely. While not strictly required to initiate the core loop, Starfield of Nyx can sit comfortably alongside them, providing its own enchantment-recursion utility or even turning your enchantments into creatures should you need another angle of attack.
