How it works

1. Activate Mindless Automaton's second ability by removing two +1/+1 counters from it, causing you to draw a card.
2. Repeat step 1 until Mindless Automaton has zero +1/+1 counters on it.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Mindless Automaton, adding CC.
4. Mindless Automaton dies, triggering its undying ability, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a total of six +1/+1 counters on it.
5. Repeat.

This delightful loop turns Mindless Automaton into a self-sustaining engine by exploiting its counter-based abilities alongside Mikaeus, the Unhallowed's passive undying grant. Because Ashnod's Altar provides the sacrifice outlet to clear out the automaton and generate colorless mana, you can cycle through its counters to draw cards at will. The real magic happens courtesy of Doubling Season, which turns the counters placed upon the automaton's return into an ever-expanding surplus—allowing you to cash them in for cards while continuously harvesting mana from the altar.
