How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Grazing Kelpie.
2. When Grazing Kelpie dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Grazing Kelpie.
4. When Grazing Kelpie dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on the constant counter-manipulation of Grazing Kelpie, whose native persist ability normally brings it back with a -1/-1 counter. By leveraging the static lord effect of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, the Kelpie also gains undying, allowing it to return with a +1/+1 counter instead whenever the previous counter was negated. Because +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters annihilate each other upon entering the battlefield, the Kelpie continuously alternates between these two triggers every time it is fed into Ashnod's Altar. This perpetual cycle of sacrifice and resurrection not only fuels your mana pool with infinite colorless mana, but also generates an endless cascade of entry, exit, and death triggers to overwhelm your opponents.
