How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Optimus Prime, Hero, adding CC.
2. When Optimus Prime, Hero dies, its second ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield as Optimus Prime, Autobot Leader.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Optimus Prime, Autobot Leader, adding CC.
4. When Optimus Prime, Autobot Leader dies, Mikaeus triggers, returning Optimus Prime from your graveyard to the battlefield as Optimus Prime, Hero with a +1/+1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on the constant transformation of Optimus Prime, Hero and its back face, Optimus Prime, Autobot Leader, as they bounce back and forth between the battlefield and the graveyard. Because Mikaeus, the Unhallowed grants undying only to non-Human creatures, Optimus Prime can take advantage of that resurrection mechanic—returning with a +1/+1 counter—when dying in its Autobot Leader form, while its own built-in death trigger smoothly brings it back as the Hero when it dies in its front-facing mode. Ashnod's Altar acts as the engine that fuels the entire cycle, turning each sacrifice into the colorless mana you need while repeatedly sending our metallic hero to the grave to trigger both resurrection effects indefinitely.
