How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Otherworldly Escort.
2. When Otherworldly Escort dies, it triggers, returning itself from your graveyard to the battlefield as a Spirit Detective.
3. Resolve the Ashnod's Altar ability.
4. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Otherworldly Escort.
5. When Otherworldly Escort dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
6. Repeat.

This clever loop exploits the fascinating interaction between Otherworldly Escort and the static lord effect of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. When you feed Otherworldly Escort to Ashnod's Altar, its own death trigger returns it transformed into a Spirit Detective, crucially stripping away any counters it might have accumulated. This allows the undying ability granted by Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to trigger on its next sacrifice, bringing it back with a +1/+1 counter instead. Alternate between these two resurrection triggers while using Ashnod's Altar to continuously sacrifice the creature, generating an endless stream of mana alongside infinite sacrifice, entry, and death triggers.
