How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing another nontoken non-Human creature
2. When the creature dies, its undying ability triggers, returning the creature from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the creature with a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. When the creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This brilliant loop turns your creatures into an endless engine of sacrifice and rebirth, fueled by the mana-generating power of Ashnod's Altar. The magic happens because Mikaeus, the Unhallowed grants your non-Human creatures undying, returning them with a +1/+1 counter the first time they die, while the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (Isilu, Carrier of Twilight) grants those same nontoken creatures persist, bringing them back with a -1/-1 counter when they die with a plus counter. Because +1/+1 and -1/+1 (or -1/-1) counters annihilate each other state-based action check after check, a creature can bounce back and forth between the battlefield and the graveyard indefinitely—letting you endlessly sacrifice it to Ashnod's Altar for infinite colorless mana and an infinite storm of death triggers.
