How it works

1. Activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing Kokusho, targeting any other nontoken non-Human creature you control with toughness two or greater.
2. Kokusho dies, triggering it and its undying ability.
3. Resolve Kokusho's undying trigger, returning it from the graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter.
4. Resolve Kokusho's trigger, causing each opponent to lose 5 life, and causing you to gain life equal to the life lost this way.
5. Resolve the Yawgmoth ability from step 1, putting a -1/-1 counter on the additional creature and causing you to draw a card.
6. Activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing the additional creature, targeting Kokusho.
7. The creature dies, triggering its undying ability, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
8. Resolve the Yawgmoth ability, putting a -1/-1 counter on Kokusho and causing you to draw a card.
9. Repeat.

This masterful loop relies on Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to continuously grant the undying ability, ensuring our key threats keep returning to the battlefield instead of staying in the graveyard. By using Yawgmoth, Thran Physician to sacrifice Kokusho, the Evening Star, we trigger Kokusho's devastating death ability to drain our opponents of life while drawing cards along the way. Yawgmoth's ability to place -1/-1 counters is also crucial for resetting our creatures, allowing Kokusho and a secondary sacrifice target to trade off dying and returning infinitely.
