How it works

1. Activate Carrion Feeder by sacrificing Safehold Elite.
2. When Safehold Elite dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Resolve the Carrion Feeder ability.
4. Activate Carrion Feeder by sacrificing Safehold Elite.
5. When Safehold Elite dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
6. Resolve the Carrion Feeder ability.
7. Repeat.

This loop is a masterclass in counter-balancing resilience, where Safehold Elite endlessly bounces back and forth between the battlefield and the graveyard. Ordinarily, the creature would permanently stay down after its persist and undying abilities are both used up, but Mikaeus, the Unhallowed steps in as the ultimate patron by granting undying to all your non-Human creatures. Because a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter actively annihilate each other through state-based actions the moment they both rest on Safehold Elite, the creature constantly resets its counter tally and alternates triggers between persist and Mikaeus's gifted undying. Meanwhile, Carrion Feeder acts as the willing executioner that devours Safehold Elite on command, growing ever larger into an infinitely massive threat while harvesting infinite deaths, enters-the-battlefield triggers, and sacrifices.
