How it works
Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Thunderblust.
When Thunderblust dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Thunderblust.
When Thunderblust dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
Repeat.
This loop is a masterclass in countering negative counters, using Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to grant undying to Thunderblust so it can offset its own native persist ability. Whenever you sacrifice Thunderblust to Bartolomé del Presidio, the two recursion mechanics take turns bringing the elemental back—persist returns it with a -1/-1 counter, and undying returns it with a +1/+1 counter. Because +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters annihilate each other as a state-based action, Thunderblust is constantly wiped clean of counters and ready to be sacrificed over and over again. This endless cycle allows Bartolomé del Presidio to grow infinitely large while churning out infinite death and entry triggers.
