How it works

  1. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Persistent Constrictor.
  2. When Persistent Constrictor dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
  4. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Persistent Constrictor.
  5. When Persistent Constrictor dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  6. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
  7. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns the push-and-pull of +1/+1 and -1/+1 counters into an infinite cycle of sacrifice and rebirth. By utilizing Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to grant undying while Persistent Constrictor relies on its native persist ability, you can continuously feed the Constrictor to Bartolomé del Presidio. Because the opposing counter types annihilate each other state-based action style upon return, the creature can alternate between undying and persist indefinitely, fueling an endless storm of sacrifice triggers and growing Bartolomé del Presidio to astronomical proportions.
