How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing another nontoken non-Human creature
2. When the creature dies, its undying ability triggers, returning the creature from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
3. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing the creature with a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. When the creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
5. Resolve the Shilgengar abilities from step 1 and 3.
6. Repeat.

This wicked loop exploits a mechanical overlap between Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight: while Mikaeus grants your non-Human creatures undying to return them with a +1/+1 counter, Isilu grants those same creatures persist to return them with a -1/-1 counter when the +1/+1 counter is present. Shilgengar, Sire of Famine acts as the engine's heart, turning each sacrifice into Blood tokens while continuously looping your creatures back and forth between the battlefield and graveyard.
