How it works

  1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing River Kelpie.
  2. When River Kelpie dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. When River Kelpie enters, its first ability triggers, causing you to draw a card.
  4. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
  5. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing River Kelpie.
  6. When River Kelpie dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  7. When River Kelpie enters, its first ability triggers, causing you to draw a card.
  8. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
  9. Repeat.

This brilliant loop turns Woe Strider into a continuous sacrifice engine that manipulates River Kelpie's mortality in your favor. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed provides the crucial passive undying keyword, while River Kelpie's own innate persist ability alternates with undying to keep resetting its counters back and forth. Every time River Kelpie enters the battlefield from the graveyard, its trigger draws you a card, letting you churn through your entire library while Woe Strider happily processes the endless cycle.
