How it works

1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Defiant Greatmaw.
2. When Defiant Greatmaw dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
3. When Defiant Greatmaw enters the battlefield, its first ability triggers, putting two -1/-1 counters on it.
4. Defiant Greatmaw's second ability triggers, removing a -1/-1 counter from another creature you control.
5. Resolve the Woe Strider ability from step 1, causing you to scry 1.
6. Repeat.

This ingenious loop turns Mikaeus, the Unhallowed into the ultimate enabler, granting undying to your other non-Human creatures so they can cheat death. By feeding Defiant Greatmaw to Woe Strider's sacrifice outlet, you trigger that undying ability to bring the Greatmaw right back to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. Every time Defiant Greatmaw re-enters, its own triggered ability places two -1/-1 counters on itself, which immediately annihilates the +1/+1 counter thanks to state-based actions—clearing the slate so Mikaeus, the Unhallowed can catch it all over again on the next sacrifice.
