How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Lesser Masticore.
2. When Lesser Masticore dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Lesser Masticore enters the battlefield, Captain Storm triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Lesser Masticore.
4. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop turns an endless cycle of sacrifice and resurrection into a self-sustaining engine, fueled by the recursive nature of Lesser Masticore's persist ability. Because Maskwood Nexus makes every creature you control—including the Masticore—a Pirate, Captain Storm, Cosmium Raider steps in with a +1/+1 counter every time the Masticore enters the battlefield, neatly neutralizing the -1/+1 counter that would otherwise shut down its persist trigger. Meanwhile, Umbral Collar Zealot acts as the dedicated sacrifice outlet that triggers this entire sequence, giving you infinite graveyard-stuffing surveil triggers along the way.
