How it works

  1. Cast Rhys by paying 1W mana
  2. When Rhys enters, it triggers, giving Reveillark persist until end of turn.
  3. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Rhys.
  4. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Reveillark.
  5. When Reveillark dies, its ability and its persist ability trigger.
  6. Resolve the persist trigger, returning Reveillark from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Solemnity.
  7. Resolve the second trigger, returning Rhys from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  8. When Rhys enters, it triggers, giving Reveillark persist until end of turn.
  9. Resolve the Shilgengar ability from step 4.
  10. Repeat from step 3.

This elegant loop turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into an engine of endless rebirth by leveraging the clever interplay of its sacrifice outlet with Reveillark and Rhys, the Evermore. While Shilgengar converts your creatures into Blood tokens, Reveillark ensures it never runs out of fuel by fetching Rhys back from the graveyard whenever it leaves the battlefield. The real magic, however, relies on Solemnity, which quietly shuts down the -1/-1 counters that would normally spell doom for the persist ability granted to Reveillark by Rhys. Because Solemnity prevents those counters from ever being placed, Reveillark can return to the battlefield unscathed and ready to be sacrificed over and over again, flooding the board with infinite artifacts and death triggers.
