How it works

1. Cast Realm-Scorcher Hellkite by paying 4 and sacrificing an additional artifact, enchantment or token.
2. When Realm-Scorcher Hellkite enters the battlefield, it triggers, adding 2.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Realm-Scorcher Hellkite, adding CC.
4. When Realm-Scorcher Hellkite dies, Abzan Ascendancy's second ability and Enduring Renewal trigger.
5. Resolve the Abzan Ascendancy trigger, creating a 1/1 Spirit creature token.
6. Resolve the Enduring Renewal trigger, returning it to your hand from your graveyard.
7. Repeat.

This elegant loop relies on Enduring Renewal's replacement effect preventing you from drawing creatures naturally while its second ability instantly rescues any fallen creature from the graveyard straight back to your hand. Ashnod's Altar provides the sacrifice outlet to send your creatures there while fueling your mana pool, while Abzan Ascendancy triggers upon those deaths to produce a steady stream of 1/1 Spirit tokens. By bargaining away an artifact, enchantment, or token to cast Realm-Scorcher Hellkite, its enter-the-battlefield ability generates the mana needed to recast it continuously through the Renewal loop, letting you sacrifice the Hellkite over and over to the Altar.
