How it works

1. Cast Kokusho by paying 4.
2. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Kokusho.
3. When Kokusho dies, it and Enduring Renewal trigger.
4. Resolve the Enduring Renewal trigger, returning Kokusho from your graveyard to your hand.
5. Resolve the Kokusho trigger, causing each opponent to lose 5 life and you to gain life equal to the life lost this way.
6. Crystalline Crawler triggers, putting a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the life you gained.
7. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability, causing target player to mill cards equal to Kokusho's power.
8. Activate Crystalline Crawler's first ability six times by removing six +1/+1 counters from it, adding 4.
9. Repeat.

This grisly loop is anchored by Enduring Renewal, whose passive trigger ensures that any creature dying on your battlefield immediately bounces back to your hand rather than staying in the graveyard. We exploit this safety net by sacrificing Kokusho, the Evening Star to Altar of Dementia, triggering the dragon's dreaded death throes to drain our opponents and surge our life total. Because Sunbond enchants Crystalline Crawler—or another willing recipient—that incoming lifegain instantly translates into a massive payload of +1/+1 counters for Crystalline Crawler. Finally, Crystalline Crawler can peel off those newly minted counters for any color of mana, funding the re-casting of Kokusho, the Evening Star so the whole morbid cycle can begin anew.
