How it works
- Deal combat damage to an opponent using Gollum.
- Cast Oubliette by paying 1.
- When Oubliette enters the battlefield, it triggers, phasing out Gollum until Oubliette leaves the battlefield.
- Cast Volcano Hellion by paying 2.
- When Volcano Hellion enters the battlefield, it triggers, dealing an arbitrarily large amount of damage to you and Volcano Hellion.
- Instead of you losing the game as a state-based action, Lich's Mirror causes you to shuffle your hand, graveyard and all permanents you own into your library, causing Gollum to phase in as Oubliette leaves the battlefield, and setting your life total to 20.
- At the beginning of your end step, Gollum triggers, causing an opponent to lose life equal to the life you gained this turn.
This fascinating loop relies on Lich's Mirror acting as a safety net that continuously resets your board state, hand, and life total whenever you drop to zero or below. When you cast Volcano Hellion, its enters-the-battlefield trigger deals massive, unpreventable damage to both itself and you, instantly triggering the Mirror to shuffle everything away and reset your life to 20. Because Oubliette and all other owned permanents are shuffled away during this replacement effect, Oubliette leaves the battlefield, allowing Gollum, Obsessed Stalker to phase back in fresh from exile. Finally, Gollum's delayed end-step trigger looks back at the absurd amount of life you effectively "gained" from the massive life loss reset and instantly drains your opponents out of the game.
