How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Mirrorhall Mimic
2. Nest of Scarabs triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Mirrorhall Mimic by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Nest of Scarabs triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns a pair of mutual self-saboteurs into an endless army by exploiting how they interact with counters and token generation. You start with Grim Poppet and Mirrorhall Mimic entering the battlefield—with Mirrorhall Mimic having copied Grim Poppet so that both creatures possess the vital ability to strip away and redistribute -1/-1 counters. As Grim Poppet and Mirrorhall Mimic ping each other back and forth by removing and placing those counters, Nest of Scarabs watches eagerly and floods the board with 1/1 black Insect creature tokens for every single counter placed.
