How it works
Declare Covert Technician as an attacker.
When it isn't blocked, activate up to seven lands you control by tapping them, adding at least 3.
Activate Great Whale's ninjutsu ability by paying 2 and returning Covert Technician from the battlefield to your hand, putting Great Whale onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking.
When Great Whale enters the battlefield, it triggers, untapping up to seven lands.
Activate Covert Technician's ninjutsu ability by paying 1 and returning Great Whale from the battlefield to your hand, putting Covert Technician onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking.
Repeat from step 2.
If you control up to seven lands that can tap to produce at least 4, this combo nets infinite mana.
This clever loop relies on Satoru Umezawa to grant every creature in your hand the ninjutsu ability, letting you effortlessly swap your attackers back and forth. By cycling between Covert Technician and Great Whale, you use the Whale's massive mana-untapping entrance trigger to continuously refund the exact costs needed to keep the ninjutsu chain going. Satoru Umezawa even helps you dig through your library for pieces along the way, turning a pair of sneaky ninjas and a giant cetacean into an endless engine of entering-the-battlefield triggers and unbounded land-tapping.
