How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Lesser Masticore.
2. When Lesser Masticore dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Lesser Masticore enters the battlefield, Captain Storm triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Lesser Masticore.
4. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop centers on Lesser Masticore and its persist ability, which normally would exhaust itself after a single recursion due to the -1/+1 counter it acquires. Arcane Adaptation cleverly bridges the gap by making every creature type match, allowing Captain Storm, Cosmium Raider to see the returning artifact creature and immediately place a +1/+1 counter on it. Because state-based actions neutralize opposing +1/-1 and +1/+1 counters simultaneously, the Masticore is wiped clean of counters every time it enters the battlefield. Finally, Umbral Collar Zealot acts as the sacrificial engine that triggers this infinite loop while letting you surveil through your entire deck to fuel your strategy.
