How it works

1. Cast Sin either from your hand or command zone by paying 5 plus commander tax if applicable.
2. As Sin enters, remove all counters from all artifacts, enchantments and creatures you control, putting twice that many +1/+1 counters plus one due to Kami of Whispered Hopes on Sin.
3. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Sin.
4. Choose to return Sin to the command zone from your graveyard.
5. When Sin dies, it and Kami of Whispered Hopes trigger.
6. When Sin dies, it triggers, putting its counters plus an additional +1/+1 counter on Kami of Whispered Hopes.
7. Resolve the Kami of Whispered Hopes trigger, untapping it.
8. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability.
9. Activate Kami of Whispered Hopes by tapping it, adding an amount of or equal to its power.
10. Repeat.

This loop turns Sin, Unending Cataclysm into an endlessly recurring engine of destruction by leveraging its own replacement effect upon entering the battlefield. By equipping Thornbite Staff to Kami of Whispered Hopes, every time Sin dies and triggers the staff's untap ability, it readies Kami of Whispered Hopes to tap for a massive influx of colored mana fueled by the sheer volume of counters piling up. Altar of Dementia acts as the sacrifice outlet that keeps the loop moving by sending Sin back to the command zone while simultaneously milling out your opponents.
