How it works

  1. Cast Capture of Jingzhou by paying its mana cost, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
  2. Cast Scholar of the Ages by paying its mana cost.
  3. When Scholar of the Ages enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Capture of Jingzhou from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Move to your next turn.
  5. Activate Dour Port-Mage by paying 1U mana and tapping it, returning Scholar of the Ages from the battlefield to your hand.
  6. Dour Port-Mage triggers, causing you to draw a card.
  7. Repeat.

This loop is a masterclass in recursive spell-casting, built entirely around recycling a single extra-turn spell to dominate the game. By casting Capture of Jingzhou, you buy yourself the time needed to set up your board, while Scholar of the Ages acts as the recursive engine by digging Capture of Jingzhou right back out of your graveyard the moment it enters the battlefield. To keep the cycle going, Dour Port-Mage uses its activated ability to bounce Scholar of the Ages safely back to your hand, ready to be recast on the next extra turn. Meanwhile, Dour Port-Mage's passive triggered ability rewards you for this constant bouncing by drawing you a card every time Scholar of the Ages leaves the battlefield without dying, ultimately burying your opponents in infinite turns and endless card advantage.
