How it works

  1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Geralf's Messenger, adding CC.
  2. Geralf's Messenger's undying ability and Mortician Beetle trigger.
  3. Resolve the Geralf's Messenger trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 and a vigilance counter.
  4. Geralf's Messenger enters the battlefield, causing target opponent to lose 2 life.
  5. Resolve the Mortician Beetle trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  6. Activate Tayam by paying 3, removing a +1/+1 counter from Mortician Beetle and removing both counters from Geralf's Messenger.
  7. Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Geralf's Messenger, adding CC.
  8. Geralf's Messenger's undying ability and Mortician Beetle trigger.
  9. Resolve the Geralf's Messenger trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 and a vigilance counter.
  10. Geralf's Messenger enters the battlefield, causing target opponent to lose 2 life.
  11. Resolve the Mortician Beetle trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  12. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Geralf's Messenger, adding CC.
  13. Mortician Beetle triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
  14. Resolve the Tayam ability from step 6, causing yourself to mill three cards and return Geralf's Messenger from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  15. Geralf's Messenger enters the battlefield, causing target opponent to lose 2 life.
  16. Repeat.
