How it works
Play a land card, triggering Dúnedain Rangers and Bloodghast.
Resolve the Bloodghast trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Resolve the Dúnedain Rangers trigger, causing the Ring to tempt you, and causing Bloodghast to become your Ring-bearer.
Sméagol triggers.
Holding priority, activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Bloodghast, adding one mana of any color.
Resolve the Sméagol trigger, causing an opponent to reveal cards from the top of their library until they reveal a land card, then causing you to put the land onto the battlefield tapped under your control, and your opponent to put all other revealed cards into their graveyard.
When the land enters the battlefield, Dúnedain Rangers and Bloodghast trigger.
Repeat from step 2.
NOTE: This combo can be stopped if an opponent runs out of lands in their library, so it is recommended to alternate opponents in between cycles to maximize the amount of iterations.
This clever loop turns the mechanical weight of the Ring-tempts-you mechanic into a self-sustaining engine by letting Dúnedain Rangers and Bloodghast trigger simultaneously off every new land arrival. As Bloodghast bounces back from the graveyard and becomes your Ring-bearer, it sets the stage for Sméagol, Helpful Guide to steal lands from your opponents' libraries while Phyrexian Altar quietly turns that revolving door of sacrifices into an endless stream of colored mana.
