How it works

  1. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Cauldron Familiar, putting a +1/+1 counter on Bartolomé del Presidio.
  2. Activate Cauldron Familiar by sacrificing a Food, returning Cauldron Familiar to the battlefield from your graveyard.
  3. Cauldron Familiar and Insidious Roots trigger.
  4. Resolve the Insidious Roots trigger, creating a 0/1 green Plant creature token and a Food artifact token, and then putting a +1/+1 counter on each Plant you control.
  5. Resolve the Cauldron Familiar trigger, causing each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life.
  6. Repeat

This looping engine transforms a humble cat and its favorite snack into an unstoppable cascade of value, powered by a remarkably efficient feedback loop. Bartolomé del Presidio serves as the sacrificial outlet that sends Cauldron Familiar back to the graveyard, triggering its life-drain ability while neatly slipping a creature card out of the yard. That graveyard departure immediately wakes up Insidious Roots, which rewards you with both a growing Plant token and—thanks to Peregrin Took's replacement effect—an extra Food token to fuel the next iteration. As you cycle the familiar in and out of play, Peregrin Took also keeps your pantry well-stocked so you can convert excess tokens into cards or mana while completely draining your opponents' life totals.
