How it works

1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Cauldron Familiar, causing target player to mill cards equal to Cauldron Familiar's power.
2. Activate Cauldron Familiar by sacrificing a Food, returning Cauldron Familiar to the battlefield from your graveyard.
3. Cauldron Familiar and Insidious Roots trigger.
4. Resolve the Insidious Roots trigger, creating a 0/1 green Plant creature token and a Food artifact token, and then putting a +1/+1 counter on each Plant you control.
5. Resolve the Cauldron Familiar trigger, causing each opponent to lose 1 life and you to gain 1 life.
6. Repeat

This elegant loop turns a simple cat-and-mouse routine into an overwhelming engine of attrition and mill. By sacrificing Cauldron Familiar to Altar of Dementia, you feed the graveyard while milling your opponent, which triggers Insidious Roots to spawn a Plant token whenever the cat leaves the yard. At the same time, Peregrin Took ensures that every token generation—including the Food needed to bring Cauldron Familiar back—is amplified into an extra Food token. With Insidious Roots also granting those Plant tokens a mana-producing tap ability and growing them with +1/+1 counters, and Peregrin Took providing a built-in outlet to crack those spare Foods for card draw, this combination effortlessly converts a single cat into endless resources, drain, and mill.
