How it works

1. Cast Desperate Ritual by paying 1 and choosing to pay 2 and reveal Through the Breach from your hand, adding Through the Breach's effects to Desperate Ritual.
2. Holding priority, activate Rootha by paying 2 and returning it to your hand, copying Desperate Ritual.
3. Resolve the copy of Desperate Ritual, adding and putting Rootha from your hand onto the battlefield.
4. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop turns Rootha, Mercurial Artist into a self-sustaining engine by utilizing her ability to copy spells alongside the clever mechanics of Arcane cards. By casting Desperate Ritual and splicing Through the Breach onto it, you create a combined spell that yields both red mana and the ability to cheat a creature onto the battlefield. When you activate Rootha, Mercurial Artist's ability, you pay her activation cost by returning her to your hand while copying that potent spliced spell. Resolving the copy generates the necessary mana to recast Rootha, Mercurial Artist and repeat the process, letting you churn out infinite mana and creature triggers.
