How it works

1. Cast Whitemane Lion by paying 0 and 2 life due to Defiler of Faith and The Immortal Sun.
2. Defiler of Faith triggers, creating a 1/1 Soldier creature token.
3. When the Soldier enters, Ayara triggers, causing you to gain life.
4. Resolve Whitemane Lion. When it enters, it and Ayara trigger.
5. Resolve the Whitemane Lion trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Resolve the Ayara trigger, causing you to gain life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop achieves infinite life drain and token generation by repeatedly casting and bouncing Whitemane Lion for zero mana. The heavy lifting is done by a trio of cost reducers: Defiler of Faith pays for the white mana requirement using life, while The Immortal Sun shaves off the remaining generic mana, making the Lion completely free to cast. As you cast and recast the creature, Defiler of Faith's triggered ability floods the board with 1/1 Soldier tokens. Finally, Ayara, First of Locthwain watches these tokens enter and leave the battlefield to drain your opponents' life totals down to zero while continuously padding your own life total.
