How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Selesnya Sanctuary.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Selesnya Sanctuary.
5. When Selesnya Sanctuary dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Selesnya Sanctuary from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Selesnya Sanctuary enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms your battlefield into an engine of continuous recycling by turning ordinary artifacts into lands. With Toph, the First Metalbender redefining all your nontoken artifacts as lands, casting a zero-cost artifact triggers Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to earthbend your Selesnya Sanctuary into a creature. You then feed that animated land to Phyrexian Altar for mana, and because Selesnya Sanctuary dies, Toph, the First Metalbender's earthbend clause returns it to the battlefield tapped. When Selesnya Sanctuary enters, its own trigger forces you to bounce a land back to your hand; because the zero-cost artifact is currently masquerading as a land thanks to Toph, the First Metalbender, it bounces right back to your hand ready to be cast all over again.
