How it works

1. Cast Appa either from your hand or from the command zone by paying plus commander tax, if applicable.
2. When Appa enters, its first ability triggers, exiling Restoration Angel with the ability to cast it later from exile.
3. Cast Restoration Angel from exile by paying 0.
4. Appa's second ability triggers, creating a 1/1 Ally creature token.
5. When Restoration Angel enters, it triggers, blinking Appa.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This wondrous loop turns Planar Gate into the ultimate engine of creation, reducing the cost of casting exiled creatures down to zero so you can cycle them infinitely. When you cast Appa, Steadfast Guardian, its entry trigger exiles Restoration Angel, setting up a recursive chain where Appa airbends the Angel away and Restoration Angel blinks Appa right back in response. Because Planar Gate discounts the Angel's recast cost to free, every iteration of this eternal dance triggers Appa's second ability to flood the board with an endless army of 1/1 Ally tokens while generating infinite storm count.
