How it works

1. Cast Appa either from your hand or from the command zone by paying plus commander tax if applicable.
2. When Appa enters, it triggers, airbending Aang.
3. Cast Aang from exile by paying 0.
4. Appa triggers, creating a 1/1 Ally creature token.
5. When Aang enters, it triggers, airbending Appa.
6. Cast Appa from exile by paying 0.
7. Repeat from step 2.

This loop turns a simple bounce-and-recast dynamic into an infinite engine, powered entirely by Planar Gate reducing the cost of creature spells by {2}. Because Appa, Steadfast Guardian and Aang, the Last Airbender both possess abilities that exile each other upon entering the battlefield—allowing them to be recast from exile for exactly {2}—Planar Gate erases that casting cost entirely down to {0}. As you continuously cycle them back and forth for free, Appa, Steadfast Guardian's secondary triggered ability recognizes each spell cast from exile and floods your board with an endless army of 1/1 white Ally creature tokens.
