Romana II + There and Back Again + Staff of Domination
How it works
- At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
- There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
- Activate Romana II by paying 1 and tapping it, creating a token copy of Smaug with haste.
- Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
- When the Smaug token dies, it triggers, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
- Activate five Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 5.
- Activate Staff of Domination's third ability by paying 3, untapping Romana II.
- Activate Staff of Domination's first ability by paying 1, untapping it.
- Repeat from step 3.
This clever loop begins with the final chapter of There and Back Again, which gifts you a formidable Smaug token alongside fourteen potential Treasure tokens waiting in the wings upon its demise. Romana II steps in as the engine's beating heart, using her tap ability to continually churn out fresh copies of that legendary dragon. Because the legend rule forces the newly copied Smaug token straight into the graveyard, its death trigger immediately floods your board with fourteen Treasures. You can then crack those Treasures for a massive influx of mana to fuel Staff of Domination, whose untap abilities effortlessly reset both Romana II and the Staff itself, letting you repeat the entire spectacle an infinite number of times for limitless mana, life, cards, and treasures.
