How it works
- At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
- There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
- Activate Romana II by paying 1 and tapping it, creating a token copy of Smaug with haste.
- Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
- When the Smaug token dies, it triggers, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
- Activate three Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 3.
- Activate Romana II by paying 3 and untapping it, giving it +2/+2 until end of turn.
- Repeat from step 3.
This loop turns Smaug's explosive death trigger into a self-sustaining engine by letting Romana II continually copy the legendary dragon token created by There and Back Again. Because the legend rule forces you to immediately send one Smaug token to the graveyard, its death ability triggers and rains down fourteen Treasure tokens. You can then use Umbral Mantle to untap Romana II using a fraction of that newfound mana, fueling the next copy creation.
