How it works
- At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
- There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
- Activate Romana II by paying 1 and tapping it, creating a token copy of Smaug with haste.
- Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
- When the Smaug token dies, it triggers, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
- Activate five Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 3.
- Activate High Alert by paying 2, untapping Romana II.
- Repeat from step 3.
This clever loop turns the final chapter of There and Back Again into an explosive treasure trove by utilizing Romana II to continuously copy the massive Smaug token it produces. Because the legend rule instantly sends the duplicate Smaug to the graveyard, its death trigger fires repeatedly to flood your board with fourteen Treasure tokens at a time. The mana generated from sacrificing just a fraction of those Treasures then fuels High Alert's untap ability, which untaps Romana II so you can pay to copy Smaug all over again.
