How it works

1. At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
2. There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
3. Activate Romana II by paying 1 and tapping it, creating a token copy of Smaug with haste.
4. Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
5. When the Smaug token dies, it triggers, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
6. Activate four Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 4.
7. Activate Sword of the Paruns by paying 3, untapping Romana II.
8. Repeat from step 3.

This clever loop transforms a single dragon into an endless horde of treasure using a symphony of duplicated legendaries. Once There and Back Again reaches its final chapter to birth Smaug, Romana II steps in to copy that mighty token before the legend rule forces a hard choice. By using Sword of the Paruns to untap Romana II for three mana—easily funded by sacrificing just a few of the fourteen Treasure tokens left behind when the dying Smaug token triggers its demise—you generate a net-positive loop of infinite treasures, ETB triggers, and artifact sacrifices.
