How it works
- At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
- There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
- Activate Ghired by tapping it, creating a copy of the Smaug token.
- Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
- When the Smaug token dies, it triggers, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
- Activate five Treasure tokens by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 3.
- Activate Aggravated Assault by paying 3, untapping all creatures you control and causing you to get an additional combat phase after this one.
- Repeat from step 3.
This explosive loop relies on milking the massive death value of Smaug, the legendary Dragon token generated by the final chapter of There and Back Again. Because Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds grants your nontoken creatures an active ability to copy tokens that entered the battlefield this turn, you can tap Ghired to duplicate Smaug, instantly sating the legend rule and sending one copy to the graveyard to trigger its fourteen Treasure tokens. Sacrificing just five of those freshly minted Treasures provides the exact mana needed to activate Aggravated Assault, which untaps your creatures—including Ghired—and grants an extra combat and main phase so you can repeat the whole fiery cycle.
