How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Glen Elendra Archmage.
2. When Glen Elendra Archmage dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Vizier of Remedies.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Glen Elendra Archmage into a self-sustaining mana machine by exploiting how its persist ability interacts with replacement effects. Each time you sacrifice the Archmage to Ashnod's Altar, you generate two colorless mana while triggering its return via persist, but Vizier of Remedies steps in to alter how the counter is placed—reducing the incoming -1/-1 counter to zero. Because the Archmage returns to the battlefield completely clean of counters, you can repeat the process indefinitely to fuel any big finish you desire.
