How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Safehold Elite.
2. When Safehold Elite dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Vizier of Remedies.
3. Repeat.

This classic loop turns an ordinary common into a bottomless well of mana by completely circumventing the drawback of the persist mechanic. When you sacrifice Safehold Elite to Phyrexian Altar, the creature goes to the graveyard and triggers its own return, but Vizier of Remedies steps in to subtly rewrite history so that the resulting -1/-1 counter is never actually placed. Because Safehold Elite returns to the battlefield completely pristine and without a counter, its persist ability remains ready to trigger all over again every time it hits the altar. The result is an endless cycle of sacrifice and rebirth that continuously fuels Phyrexian Altar to generate infinite colored mana alongside an infinite storm of death, entry, and exit triggers.
