How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Glen Elendra Archmage.
2. When Glen Elendra Archmage dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Vizier of Remedies.
3. Resolve the Shilgengar ability
4. Repeat.

This loop turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into an engine for endless sacrifice by feeding it Glen Elendra Archmage, which counters noncreature spells when it isn't busy dying for the cause. Normally, persist would leave Glen Elendra Archmage permanently stranded in the graveyard after its second trip because of the -1/-1 counter it accumulates, but Vizier of Remedies steps in to gracefully reduce that counter placement to zero. Because no counters stick, the Archmage can endlessly return to the battlefield fresh and ready to be sacrificed over and over again to Shilgengar, Sire of Famine's hunger.
