How it works

  1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Flayer of the Hatebound.
  2. Flayer of the Hatebound dies, triggering its undying ability, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  3. Flayer of the Hatebound enters the battlefield, triggering itself and Intruder Alarm.
  4. Resolve the Flayer of the Hatebound trigger, dealing damage equal to its power to any target.
  5. Resolve the Intruder Alarm trigger, untapping all creatures.
  6. Resolve the Woe Strider ability from step 1, causing you to scry 1.
  7. Activate Skeleton Ship by tapping it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Flayer of the Hatebound.
  8. Repeat.

This delightfully eerie loop turns a ghostly crew into a relentless engine of destruction by continually cycling a key threat through the graveyard. Woe Strider acts as the sacrificial altar that sends Flayer of the Hatebound to the graveyard, where its undying ability rescues it straight back to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. Every time Flayer of the Hatebound re-enters, Intruder Alarm untaps all your creatures—including Skeleton Ship, which uses its tap ability to place a -1/-1 counter right back on the Flayer to cancel out its lingering +1/+1 counter. This persistent counter manipulation ensures the Flayer can keep dying over and over again, fueling its own entry trigger to repeatedly deal damage equal to its power to any target.
