How it works

1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Obstinate Gargoyle.
2. When Obstinate Gargoyle dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Obstinate Gargoyle.
4. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
5. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns Woe Strider into a graveyard-recycling engine by feeding Obstinate Gargoyle to its sacrifice ability over and over. Every time the Gargoyle hits the graveyard, its persist mechanic brings it right back, while the clever static presence of Thran Vigil steps in to instantly place a +1/+1 counter on it. Because that counter immediately cancels out the -1/-1 counter from persist, Obstinate Gargoyle is left completely clean and ready to be sacrificed again, letting you sculpt your library with infinite scry triggers while generating an endless stream of artifact and creature leaves-the-graveyard events.
