How it works

1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Thopter Squadron.
2. When Thopter Squadron dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its replacement effect.
3. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
4. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns Isilu, Carrier of Twilight's generous grant of persist into an infinite engine, continually recycling Thopter Squadron from the graveyard whenever it falls to Woe Strider's hungry sacrifice altar. Because Woe Strider also provides a steady stream of scrys and starts you off with a Goat token to help kick things off, you can dig through your deck at will while generating an endless flurry of enters-the-battlefield, leaves-the-battlefield, and death triggers. Meanwhile, the front face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn waits in the wings, ready to grant convoke to your creature spells once you're done cycling your artifacts through the abyss.
