How it works

1. Activate Kumena's first ability by tapping another nontoken Merfolk you control.
2. Deeproot Pilgrimage triggers, creating a 1/1 Merfolk creature token.
3. Resolve the Kumena ability.
4. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing the Merfolk token.
5. When the Merfolk dies, Faces of the Past triggers, untapping all Merfolk.
6. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms your Merfolk into a self-sustaining engine by turning the act of tapping into an endless stream of resources. You begin by utilizing Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca to tap a nontoken Merfolk, which immediately causes Deeproot Pilgrimage to trigger and spawn a fresh 1/1 Merfolk token to replace it. That newly created token is then fed directly to Woe Strider's sacrifice ability to scry 1, sending the token to the graveyard.
