How it works

  1. Donate Blightbeetle to an opponent
  2. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing the undying creature.
  3. When the undying creature dies, its undying ability triggers, returning itself from your graveyard to the battlefield without a +1/+1 counter on it due to Blightbeetle.
  4. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
  5. Repeat from step 2.

This ingenious loop turns a defensive hoser into an engine of infinite recycling by giving Blightbeetle away to an opponent so its passive clause—preventing your opponents' creatures from getting +1/+1 counters—acts as a wrench in the gears of any undying creature you control. Normally, undying returns a creature with a counter to prevent infinite loops, but under the watch of the donated Blightbeetle, that counter is blocked entirely, leaving the creature completely clean when it hits the graveyard. This allows Woe Strider to endlessly sacrifice that creature for infinite death triggers and scrys, fueled further by the utility of its escape cost and Bilbo, Luckwearer // Burglar's Plot lurking in the background.
